Veda Vyas : A introduction

VOnce there was a great teacher called Veda Vyasa. He was the son of Great sage Parasara and Satyavati. He was called as Krishna Dwaipayana. He is a great Sage also.Vedas were read as one great book. He divided them into four Vedas- Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda and Atharvana Veda. Hence he is called as Veda Vyasa. He wrote the great epic Mahabharata.On a full moon day he started to write a great work called Brahma Sutras. So, that day started to be celebrated as Guru Purnima or Vyasa Purnima. He wrote eighteen Puranas also. He taught to many disciples such as Jaimini, Vysampayana, Pila etc. They spread the vedic literature all over India. His son Sri Suka was famous for his narration of Bhagawatham written by his father. Vyasa’s greatness made his disciples worship him like a god. This tradition is still practiced in India.
